Ullswater offers wild brown trout, char, schelly and perch fishing. The fishing is divided between the National Trust and private landowners. You do not require a permit to fish on Ullswater but you must have the permission of the landowner and a valid Environment Agency rod licence.
Cost:
Free fishing on National Trust land. Charges may apply on private land. Please ensure that you have the permission of the land owner before going onto private land.
When you can fish:
The closed seasons for fishing on Ullswater are as follows:
Salmon: 15th October- 15th January (C&R up to 16th June)
Sea Trout: 1st October to and including 31st March
Brown Trout: 1st October to 15th March
Char: 1st October to 15th March
Rules:
Please also note the rules and regulations for fishing on Ullswater:
- The use of lead weight is banned on all National Trust waters.
- No power boats are permitted to launch from or travel over Trust land around the lake.
- Bait: a) use of any dead or alive freshwater fish, salmonids or eels as bait is prohibited; b) possession of any live freshwater fish, salmonids or eels with the intention of using them as bait is prohibited.
- During the period from and including the 15th day of March to and including the 15th day of June in any year; a) fishing with maggots, their pupae or imitation thereof is prohibited and ; b) the use of the baits specified in a) above as lures or baits not on or attached to a hook is prohibited.
- Please ensure that you are familiar with the Environment Agencies fisheries bylaws for the North West before fishing in Eden.
